The trailhead is marked on US89 with a brown sign Peekaboo Trailhead and also a yellow. There are only two roads that are closed to vehicle traffic for the entire winter season: the 1 mile (1.6 km) road leading to Fairyland Point and the 0.3 mile (0.5 km) road leading to Paria View. The trailhead is between mile posts 72 and 73 (roughly 72.6) on US89. Anyone can walk through the canyon’s swirling, twisting, and contorted sandstone walls, but those without 4WD will have to hike 4 miles through deep sand just to reach its entrance. Along the first three miles of the main road, the Bryce Amphitheater area (which includes Bryce Point, Inspiration Point, Sunset Point, and Sunrise Point) is the first area to be plowed, so it remains accessible even during temporary closures of the scenic southern drive. Closures typically last a day or more, depending on snowstorm durations. I did end up hiring a guide however, because the road from the trailhead to the canyon is pretty rough and required a high clearance 4WD vehicle. Peek-a-boo – FREE!
